1. Who can take the MECH test?
A mechanic that has two or more years
of documented experience as a healthcare
mechanic for the first certification level
called, Certified Healthcare Mechanic.
A mechanic with four or more years of
documented healthcare maintenance
experience is able to register to take
the second certification level, Senior
Healthcare Mechanic.
2. How do I take the MECH test?
When the mechanic is ready to be tested, their facility
must provide the Wisconsin MECH Program Manager
with the name, title, address and phone number of an
individual from outside your department, willing to serve
as the Test Proctor. (For example: someone from the
Human Resources or Nursing Education department)
3. How long does the test take?
The mechanic has two (2) hours to complete the test.
4. How many questions are there on the test?
There are 110 multiple choice questions (there are 10
that are mixed in as pilot questions, if we find some of
them need to be changed someday.)
5. Is it an open book test? NO
6. How do I order a Preparation Manual, or an application for the test?

7. How do I pay for the Preparation Manual and/or the test?
Your application must include a check, money order,
or a purchase order number made out to WHEA.
8. What if I fail the test?
You can retake the test every six (6) months. A new application is required, with payment.
9. How long does it take to get the test results?
Usually 4-6 weeks from the time the Proctor returns the test.

11. How can I order additional patches?
